Red Fort or Lal Quila - Agra

Also known as Lal Quila, Agra Fort contains numerous palaces and a white marble mosque. Agra fort was constructed in 1565 by Emperor Akbar close to River Yamuna and is situated about 2.5 km away from the Taj Mahal. The fort has a semi round plan, with its 70 feet high walls and four gates on its four sides.

Delhi Gate, the most important among them, faces the bazaar and leads to the Jama Masjid in the city. It is now closed for visitors. Visitors’ entry is allowed through the Amar Singh Gate. There are a number of exquisite buildings in the Fort like Moti Masjid - a white marble mosque akin to a perfect pearl; Diwan-Am, Diwan-E-Khaas, Musamman Burj - where Shahjahan died in 1666 A.D., Jahangir's Palace; Khaas Mahal, Anguri Bagh, Nagina Masjid and Shish Mahal. A sound and light show is conducted at Agra Fort every day after sunset.
