Chilika is a brackish water lagoon that is a perfect treat of natural beauty for tourists. This picturesque tourist spot is the largest coastal lagoon in India and the second largest in World. Chilika is spread in an area of 1,100 sq. km. over Puri, Khurda, and Ganjam districts of Orissa. Travellers can enjoy boating, fishing and bird watching, while enjoying the serene and calm environment of this unique destination. 

Chilika lake is separated from the Bay of Bengal by a 60 Km long narrow strip of marshy islands and sand-flats.There are also some unique places in the region that are a must visit for travellers. There are some beautiful islands amidst the lake that provide a panoramic view to tourists, with the major ones being Birds Island, Satpada island and Nalabana island

This beautiful lake also provides travellers with options to admire the large variety of birds that migrate here in winters. Chilika lagoon is the largest wintering ground for migratory birds in the Indian sub-continent that hosts over 160 species of birds in peak migratory season. Birds from as far as the Caspian Sea, Lake Baikal, Aral Sea and other remote parts of Russia, Kirghiz steppes of Mongolia, Central and southeast Asia, Ladakh and Himalayas come to Chilika lake lagoon.

Chilika lake's lagoon is also home to 14 types of raptors along with rare and endangered Irrawaddy Dolphins (135 in numbers). The fabulous beauty of Chilika which has inspired poets to sing its glory and is a must visit for tourists coming to Orissa.
