About Amarkantak
Amarkantak, situated at a height of 3500 ft. in the Maikal Mountains in Chhattisgarh, is an important pilgrimage tourist center for Hindus. Amarkantak has high religious value among Hindus, as it is this region from where River Narmada and River Sone originate. According to mythological belief, Narmada is the daughter of Lord Shiva and there are many temples dedicated to Maa Narmada in Amarkantak. Amarkantak, also known as "Teerathraj", attracts thousands of Hindu devotees and tourists from all over India through out the year. It is believed among the Hindus that whoever dies at Amarkantak is assured a place in heaven.
Amarkantak is located at the meeting point of two mountain ranges - the Vindhyas and the Satpura, and is very rich in biodiversity. Amarkantak region is nature lover's paradise surrounded by dense forests and hills in Chhattisgarh. The unique natural diversity of surrounding areas of Amarkantak region gives it many rare plants of high medicinal value. In the hills of plateau surrounding Amarkantak, lies some of the most primitive tribals of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh region including Korwas and Pandavas.
