About Jaipur
Jaipur is one of the finest planned cities of India, located in the semi-desert lands of Rajasthan. Founded on 18 Nov., 1727 by Sawai Jai Singh, the structure of Jaipur resembles the taste of the Rajputs and the Royal families. Also known by the name of ‘Pink City’, it was the first planned city of India, featuring a particularly organized structure and network of roads. Located at 260 km from Delhi and 240 km from Agra, it forms the golden triangle of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. The city which once had been the capital of the royalty now is the capital city of Rajasthan. At present, Jaipur is a fastest growing city and a major business center with all requisites of a metropolitan city. It is a popular tourist destination of Rajasthan, famous for its ancient temples, hilltop fortresses, magnificent royal palaces and historic pink-painted sandstone architecture. Jaipur is rich in its cultural and architectural beauty, which can be traced in the various historical and aesthetic places that reside in the city.
History of Jaipur
In ancient time Jaipur region comes under Matsya Kingdom. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Jai Singh II, a Kachhwaha Rajput, who ruled from 1699-1744 Jaipur is the first planned city of India. Maharaja Jai Singh II, who ruled from 1699-1744, took great interest while designing this pink city and consulted several books on architecture before making the lay out of Jaipur. Initially Amber, 11kms from Jaipur, was the capital of this Kachhwaha Rajput. He felt the need of shifting his capital city because of growing population and security reasons.
After consulting on various aspects to make a brilliant city, the construction of the city was started in 1727 that was completed in 4 years by following the principles of Shilpa Shastra (Indian Architecture). At that time, the architecture of the town was supposed to be the best in Indian subcontinent. In 1853, during the visit of Prince of Wales in Jaipur, the whole city was painted in Pink color to welcome him.
