About Rajgir
Rajgir is a beautiful and scenic place located in a valley surrounded by lush green forests and hills. Rajgir, meaning ‘home of the royalty’, was named that because it was the capital of Magadh Mahajanpad (State) when Patliputra was not formed. Rajgir holds an important position in the life of Lord Buddha as he spent many years at the monasteries of Rajgir. Rajgir is an important Buddhist pilgrimage centre as the first Buddhist council took place here and also Lord Buddha delivered his sermons here. Rajgir also has couple of beautiful Hindu and Jain temples.
