About Varanasi

Varanasi is one of the oldest cities of India and is lying on the western banks of India's holy river Ganges. The city hosts one of the Shakti Peethas and one of the twelve Jyotir Lingas. The city is also known as Kashi and Benaras, and is famous among Hindus as the city of Moksha for centuries.

History of Varanasi

According to legend, the city of Varanasi was founded by the Hindu deity, Lord Shiva. The city of Varanasi is believed to be standing on the tip of "Trishool", and is considered to be one of the seven holiest cities in India. There are mention about Varanasi in various religious text including Rigveda, Skanda Purana, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
