About Munnar - Kerala Tourism

Munnar, located on the Western Ghats, is the most popular hill station in South India frequented by both domestic and international tourists. Munnar provides a breathtaking experience to tourists with its large expanses of tea plantations, mountains and valleys, and flora and fauna.

This hill station is located at the confluence of three mountain ranges - Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. This hill town is especially loved by honeymoon couples providing them perfect romantic experience with its greenery, waterfalls, lakes and dams, wildlife and national parks, and tea plantations.

Munnar was once the summer resort of the British government in South India. One of the most beautiful and majestic experience that is provided to travelers is by taking a walk or drive on the roads through the tea plantations that cover the mountain ranges around the town. Another important tourist attraction of this hill station is Neelakurinji flower, which covers the hills in blue color once in every twelve years. The last time Neelakurinji bloomed was in the year 2006.

Some of the most scenic points in Munnar are Top Station, Echo Point, Pothamedu, and Photo point. Travelers will also feel in the arms of nature while visiting Eravikulam national park, Atukkad waterfalls, and Mattupetti Dam. There is also the Tata tea museum that provides visitors with information about various kinds of tea and tea manufacturing process.

Tourists can also enjoy trekking, rappling, and cycling through the routes passing through the tea plantations. There are also options available to hire motorcycle in the town to travel to nearby tourist attractions. Not many tourists prefer that as it is difficult to drive through the hilly roads on a two-wheeler. There are some of the best hill resorts in Munnar, however, most of them are a little away from the main town in the hills.
