Ooty, also known as Udhagamandalam, is known among tourists as the Queen of hill stations. Located in the Western Ghats at a height of 2240m in the Nilgiris hills, Ooty gives a mesmerizing experience to travellers. This hill station provides a panoramic view to tourists with its hills covered with tea plantations, lakes surrounded by mountains, and high eucalyptus trees. 

Ooty’s discovery could be attributed to the British, who developed the place as a popular hill stations perfect for their summer retreat by developing facilities like first railway line in the region. Ooty is also surrounded by smaller hill stations like Coonoor (19 kms from Ooty) and Kothagiri (31 kms from Ooty), which are rapidly growing as popular tourist spots.

The main places to visit in Ooty are government botanical garden - largest rose garden in India, botanical gardens - with thousand species of plants and trees, Ooty Lake - 65 acres of lake surrounded by Eucalyptus trees, and St. Stephen Church - a 19th century church. Ooty also provides options of adventure activities for tourists like trekking through the trails among tea gardens, or hand gliding at Kalahatty located about 20 km from Ooty.
