Orissa is an exuberant state that is gaining popularity among travellers as a tourist destination. Orissa is full of tourist attractions including ancient temples and caves, panoramic beaches, picturesque wildlife sanctuaries and natural landscapes. This beautiful state located on the eastern coast of Bay of Bengal, is also home to some of the aboriginal tribes of India. 

Orissa was in the past known as Kalinga that was invaded by Mauryan Emperor in 261 BC. The state holds an important position in Indian history with around 3000 years of historical events. Orissa has stood as an observer to the Kalinga war that led emperor Ashoka to embrace non-violence and teachings of Buddha. The modern state was established on April 1, 1936 with majorly Oriya speaking people. The narrow level coastal strip including the Mahanadi River delta supports the bulk population of Orissa. The interior of the state is mountainous and sparsely populated.

Orissa is a beautiful state with several amazing tourist destinations. One of the main tourist circuit is the Golden triangle circuit that include holy city of Puri, Bhubaneswar, and Konark. Puri is one the most sacred places for Hindus and is visited by thousands of pilgrims daily to visit the Jagannath temple. The capital city of Bhubaneswar, also known as the city of temples, is home to some of the most ancient temples in Orissa including the Lingaraj temple. Konark is popular among travellers for its architectural marvel - the Sun temple and its scenic beach. 

The state of Orissa provides plenty of scenic beaches to tourists with the major ones being Puri beach, Konark beach and Gopalpur-on-sea. There is also a lot for nature lovers in the state with its picturesque hills and rivers in regions like Koraput and Phulbani. The main wildlife sanctuaries in the state are Similipal wildlife sanctuary and Bhitarkanika national park. The state is also home to the largest brackish water lagoon in India, known as Chilika Lake
