Phulbani, located in the Kandhamal district of state of Orissa, is popular among tourists for its natural beauty surrounded by green hills, and large water bodies. Travellers from Orissa and surrounding states visit Phulbani to appreciate the rich and colorful flora and fauna of the region. The city is considered as the starting point for the numerous tourist attractions located in nearby areas of Kandhamal district. The town of Phulbani located next to Salunki River is full of natural beauty surrounded by green hills. 

One of the important travel attraction near Phulbani is Belghar, which is a panoramic wildlife habitat where travelers can view wide variety of animals including wild Elephants. There is also the Pillasalunki dam (3 km from Phulbani) built on the Salunki River that makes a perfect picnic spot to spend time. Another important pilgrimage attraction near the city is Lord Jagannath temple that is frequented by pilgrims all over the year.
