The state of Rajasthan has a lot to offer to tourists starting from magnificent forts and palaces, shining sand dunes, desert safari, lush forests and wildlife, and rich tradition and culture. Its biggest and most important tourist is its magnificent forts and palaces. There are many cities in the state of Rajasthan like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and Udaipur that are home to some of the most splendid monuments to be found in India. These great forts, palaces and other monuments stands as a showcase of the grand story of bygone era. 

Eastern Rajasthan has the world famous Keoladeo National Park near Bharatpur, famous for its bird life and is a World Heritage Site and two famous national tiger reserves, Ranthambore and Sariska Tiger Reserve. Another unique travel destination here is the only hill station of Rajasthan, Mount Abu, which is nestled in world's oldest mountain ranges, the Aravalli ranges. Mount Abu is known for its scenic beauty and the famous Dilwara Jain temples with splendid carvings and art. The state is also popular for its religious travel destinations including Ajmer known for the Dargah Sharif and the Pushkar city known for the only Brahma temple in world. 

Rajasthan, spread over an area of 342,239 sq km, is India's largest state by area. The state of Rajasthan is bordered by Pakistan to the west, Gujarat to the southwest, Madhya Pradesh to the southeast, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to the northeast and Punjab to the north. Most of the area of Rajasthan is encompassed by the large Thar Desert, which is also known as the Great Indian desert. Rajasthan was formed on 30 March 1949, when all erstwhile princely Rajputana states merged into the Republic of India.

The culture of Rajasthan is defined by the Rajputana kingdoms that ruled it for centuries. The rich culture and traditions of the state can be easily seen in the dance, music and art forms that have been developed under the guidance of erstwhile rulers of this state. The local handicrafts and arts are very popular among tourists and can be shopped from the local shops here.
