Sanjay National Park - Surguja

Located in Surguja and Koriya districts of Chhattisgarh, Sanjay National Park is one of the most important wildlife sanctuaries in central India. The Park is located on the Riva - Sidhi - Mirjapur - Varanasi State highway at a distance of about 60 km from Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh, the main entry point to the park(nearest railhead Jaora -20 km). Also known as Ghasi Das National Park (in Chhattisgarh), the sanctuary is famous for its rich and diverse flora and fauna covering an area of approx. 2,303 sq km with a wide variety of wildlife and birds including some of the rare species. The Park comprises mixed forests dominated with Sal and Bamboo forests. The sanctuary has Salai, Dhawada (Anogeissus latifolia), Palas , Gurajan , Semal, Mahua, Harra, Haldu, Ber and Tendu plants. The major wildlife found in Sanjay National Park is Tigers, Leopards, Chital, Nilgai, Chinkara, Jackals, Sambar, monkey, Four-horned Antelopes, Jungle Cat, Barking Deer, Porcupine, Bison, Striped Hyena, Sloth Bear, Wild Dogs, Wild Pigs, Cobra, Monitor Lizards, and Python. It also houses wide varieties of avian population of the Parrots, Peacock, Bulbul, Minivets Orioles, Wagtails, Munias, Blue Kingfisher, Phakta, Ducks, Neelkanth Pigeon, Dabchick, Peafowl, Crimson Breasted Barbet, Teetar, Tree Pie, and Racket-tailed Drongos, Egrets, Herons and many others. Sanjay National Park is a little paradise for nature lovers. The best time to visit the Sanjay National Park is November to June.
